Fanny Mendelssohn’s piano suite *Das Jahr* (The Year) employs the twelve months as its structural framework, presenting a distinct temporal logic and holistic conception. Building upon an examination of the work’s compositional background, this article focuses on analysing how it constructs a continuous temporal narrative through tonal organisation, shifts in form and the interplay of musical motifs. It further explores how the work embodies the unique aesthetic orientation and expressive style of a female composer, thereby deepening our understanding of the piece.
